What is a software licence?
Computer programs are protected by copyright law, which states that such works may not be copied without the permission of the copyright owner. The software licence gives the purchaser the right to use the software. The buyer only owns the right to use the software, not the software itself.
All Microsoft software comes with a licence, which users can purchase in one of three ways:
- together with a boxed software CD;
- with software installed on a new computer (OEM software);
- or as a volume licence.
The boxed software is offered by Microsoft primarily to home users who buy a single licence. For legal entities, a volume license is recommended as it is a much more economical solution. OEM licences are only available for operating systems and client-side Office products. In addition to their low cost, it should be noted that they can only be used on the computer purchased. If it fails or becomes obsolete, the right to use the software expires. - Purchase of the right to use the software in one lump sum (Open contract), and then the customer can claim discounts for a further 2 years. The right of use is perpetual, but only for the version purchased.
- Purchase the right to use the software and pay the fee over 3 years. Such schemes are Open Value, Open Value - Full Enterprise, Select contract, Enterprise Agreement and Enterprise Agreement Subscription
- Lease the right to use the software and at the end of the contract, the Customer may decide to purchase the right to use the software or renew the contract, or terminate it and delete the software. Such a scheme is the Open Value Subscription (OVS)

You will have to buy it separately or extend the contract for another 3 years. |
